Where it started...

I was sitting at a restaurant in the middle of Des Moines with one of my lovely aunties having a delightful conversation about their travels and future excursions. During one of the gaps in conversation, she looked at me and asked, "Why are you here?"

Well, that was a broad question.

"Why are you in Des Moines? You like to be in the woods, why are you here and not there?"

I didn't have a good answer at the time, but the question stuck with me.

You know what? I don't need to be in Des Moines anymore. I have a job that allows me to work remotely, and I don't have many like-minded friends in the area. Where are all my friends? Spread out around the country and world.

So. Why am I here? Yeah. Because it's comfortable, and because I didn't even think about it. The more I thought about it, the easier the decision was. Let's do this!

I started searching for land in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Somewhere I could be in the trees and somewhere I could hear the call of the loons. The two things that have a straight shot to my soul. I found myself following posts by The Secluded Land Company who made it clear they specialize in secluded property (like... secluded). I found a space I loved that was surrounded by state and national forests, was "secluded", and covered in trees. My dad and I went to visit just before Thanksgiving in 2023

They were right, it was secluded (just what I wanted) and covered in trees. The other great selling point is it is within walking distance of Jennings Falls on the Popple River. I made an offer and within 24-hours it had been accepted! I had just purchased 6+ acres of HEAVEN!
